INDENTICAL TWINS Identical twins Lisa Alexander and Karen Williams have more than their looks in common. Each runs her own business – Lisa is a homeopath in Henfield and Karen a financial planning consultant working in Westerham. Each has a young daughter – Karen’s daughter Abby is 7 ½ and Molly, Lisa’s daughter, is 3 ½. Both twins enjoy keeping fit and play netball regularly. With busy social lives, the sisters have very little time to spend on their appearance and wanted some guidance to help them look their best every day. When I first met Lisa and Karen, their looks seemed very similar, but I was interested to find that they suited quite different colours and styles. Both have blonde hair and blue eyes, but when I looked at different colours and tones against their complexions, I found that browns and creams are more flattering to Karen than black and white, which overpower her. She also looks great in light, bright, warm colours, which seem to lift her complexion. Lisa suits rose whites and rose browns and her complexion is enhanced by cool, soft, pastel tones. The twins have beautiful skin and did not need a lot of make-up. I used a light foundation for both, carefully matching the colour at the jawline. Lisa needed a cool, pink-toned base, whilst Karen suited a warmer, more yellow tone. I created an everyday look for Lisa using navy blue mascara, amethyst eyeliner and dusty mauves and pinks for her eyes. I used a rose cream blusher to give her a natural flush and a rose lipstick, very close to her own lip colour, with no lipliner for an even more natural look. For Karen, I used dark brown mascara and eyeliner, with warm toned brown and cream eyeshadows to enhance her eye colour. I then tidied her eyebrows for a more defined look. I applied a peach powder blusher and lined her lips before using a peach lipstick. Karen’s and Lisa’s figure types are very different. Karen has a curvy, hourglass shape, whereas Lisa has straighter lines to her body. This means that different shapes of clothes will suit them. When I met them, Karen was wearing a black, turtleneck jumper, which shortened her neck and made her appear larger than she is. The boxy shape hid her curves and the colour was unflattering to her warm skin tone. Lisa’s long tunic did not flatter the proportions of her body. The starkness of the white and dark green was too harsh for her delicate complexion. For Karen, I chose an outfit that is girly, but with a dramatic twist. The neckline of the lacy corset top flows with her natural curves and the hem sits just below the hipbone, lengthening her legs. The cap sleeves extend her shoulder line to balance her hips. Teamed with the dramatic, handkerchief hemmed skirt and high-heeled boots, it is a sexy look, which Karen wears very well. Lisa’s beauty is very natural. Like Karen, she suits a girly style, but cannot take drama and looks much better in outfits with a more casual feel. The crinkle fabric and embroidery of the blouse we chose enhance her looks, rather than overpowering them. Soft colours are very important for Lisa to look her best. The pink lights up her face and works well with the natural tones I used for her cheeks and lips. The twins were pleased to discover the individuality in their styles and felt they now had the tools to allow them to make the most of their natural good looks.
