Team Building

To get the most from your team building session, we recommend that you choose to focus on one particular area, for example improved communication, rather than a more general approach. By doing this, we can ensure the best possible results for you and your team.

We offer team building using both The MBTI and Firo B, with fully qualified facilitators:

The MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator)

The MBTI is based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types, which was developed by mother and daughter,
Isabel Briggs-Myers and Katherine Cook-Briggs.

 

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator looks at your in-born preferences in the following areas:

• Extroversion – Introversion (how you are energised)
• Sensing – Intuition (the way you take in information)
• Thinking – Feeling (the way you make decisions)
• Judging – Perceiving (how you prefer to deal with the
external world)

This team building session will help your team members to understand themselves better and to have an increased understanding and appreciation of other people’s differences.

 

Each participant will be asked to fill in an online questionnaire prior to the team building session so that the facilitator can understand the team dynamics to aid the flow and effectiveness of the session. Each team member will then receive a personal report explaining their own personality preferences, how they relate to others and how their own preferences compare to the team’s preferences.

 

At the end of the session, individual and team goals will be set with specific timings and outcomes. These should then be reviewed at an agreed date.

Firo B (Fundamental interpersonal relations orientation – Behaviour)

firobThe Firo B instrument looks at how the three interpersonal need areas below shape people’s interactions with others at work. This team building session will increase your understanding of how you tend to behave towards others and how you want them to behave towards you.

• Inclusion – recognition, participation and how you relate to groups • Control - influence, decision making and leadership
• Affection – closeness, openness and how you relate to others

As with the MBTI, each participant will be asked to fill in an online questionnaire prior to the team building session. Each team member will then receive a personal report explaining their own interpersonal needs, how they will tend to behave towards others and how they want others to behave towards them in the team.

 

The Firo B can be used alone or in conjunction with the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. The two are widely used together, as the Firo B uses completely different scales from the MBTI. The two instruments used together will give a more complete picture of a team’s strengths and effectiveness.

 

Whether you choose to use one or both of these instruments, your team members will come away from their team building session with us, with both practical tools they can apply immediately and an appreciation of the power and productivity of a team that recognises and leverages all of its members’ strengths.
